How to Deep Clean A Kitchen Sink

Kitchen sinks are a place to put dirty dishes, to water plants, or to give a baby a bath. With so many uses it is easy for this space to become dirty quickly. Kitchen sinks should be deep cleaned once a month so it is easier to maintain in-between deep cleanings. This kitchen sink has not been deep cleaned in almost two months...

Continue reading for details on how I give my sink a deep cleaning with soap and soft cleanser; or watch this short video as I go through the steps.

Step One: Clear Debris From Sink

To start clear all food, dishes, and sponges from the sink, then rinse with water.

Grime accumulates quicker then we like to think. Look at all of the grime that has accumulated in about two month since its last soft cleanser scrub.

Step Two: Soap Scrub

Take a wet, clean sponge and add about a tea spoon of dish soap. Take the sponge and scrub all parts of the sink, drain, and drain cover.

Step Three: Rinse

Once everything has been generously scrubbed with soap, rinse residue away with water.

Step Four: Soft Cleanser

Once all of the soap residue is rinsed take a rag, sponge, or gloved hand to work the soft cleanser into all of the remaining grime and water stains.

I use Bar Keepers Friend Liquid Soft Cleanser. But, any soft cleanser will do. Remember, do not let the cleanser sit longer then 10 minutes (or as directed on the instructions), or use the product with ungloved hands. If you use the cleanser ungloved it will cause dryness and irritation to the skin it was in contact with.

Step Five: Rinse and Enjoy

Once you are satisfied with the grime and water stain removal, rinse residue with the aid of a damp cloth. Be sure to thoroughly rinse, as soft scrub can leave a little residue if not thoroughly rinse. Once you are finished rinsing you can polish your sink if you wish with a clean dry cloth.

The sink is now refreshed and will be easy to maintain until next months deep cleaning. (don't worry, the little piece of food that has wiggled its way in-between the drain holes has been removed)

I hope you have enjoyed this quick walkthrough on how to deep clean a kitchen sink. Stay tuned where next week I clean my kitchen sink faucets.
